Sr Automation Reliability Engineer

The role of Sr Automation Reliability Engineer is a new role that has been announced as part of the Belgium Automation Transformation.

This role will be part of a team which mission is to drive the vision of automation across a group of 4 to 6 MPUs/SPUs, by driving the implementation and application of Automation Strategy . The team provide automation knowledge to execute the automation operations & deliver local projects for the dedicated MPUs to ensure that all systems, equipment and facilities are properly maintained, safe and reliable.

The Automation Reliability Engineer analyse the performance of a group of 4 to 6 MPUs/SPUs in terms of safety, reliability, availability and maintenance costs (in an Automation Domain). Working closely with the operating team and engineers of several MPUs, you will improve the processes, the technical systems and the automation capabilities to deliver more efficient and effective solutions to the MPUs. You will apply Lean & Six Sigma methodology to ensure delivery of cost effective solutions.

Your responsibilities:

  • Identify the key areas for improvement via a data-driven process and determine the improvement plan aligned with the Operational team mission.
  • Drives & execute improvement initiatives: benchmarks and identifies best practices, encourages informed risk taking and acts as a catalyst for innovation. Relentlessly challenges the status-quo to enrich continuous improvement of the operations, Develops process and value stream maps. Leads Kaizen events.
  • Serves as a change agent and role model for process excellence. Leads the development of lean and six sigma education by training and coaching of relays and middle management.
  • Drives the organization towards being a learning organization that enables people to deliver exceptional and sustainable performance
  • Enhances cost control, reduce lead time and working capital through budget analysis and costs of production. Launches measures of financial gains.
  • Drives Performance Management across the Operational teams with process measures in place and in use
  • Trainers for Reliability tools & methodologies.
  • Ensure effective communication for reliability programs / projects
  • Network with other Reliability experts (Automation / Technical services) to exchange learning and good practices
  • Participate or define/review & audit automation standards, compliance, SOP
  • Participate of troubleshooting taskforce - Ensures consistent use of root cause analysis tools on assessment of all high risk reliability incidents. Coach team in the use of Root cause analysis.
  • Coach orange belt, green belt program
  • Contributes to « rôle de garde » - Supports the 24/7 on-call service
  • Manages work done in SAP (follow-up approval with QA, close notification, backlog review)
  • The seniority of function can be recognised on basis of following elements :

  • Responsible for complex improvement program, involving several MPUs
  • Line Manager of Automation Reliability Engineer and SMR Manager
  • Define/review & audit automation standards, compliance, SOP
  • In charge of the cost control of the operational team, Promote Value Creation Program to enhance improvement and performance mindset in Operational teams
  • Set up the strategy and implementation plan of the Operational team to achieve business objectives

    We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • A sound understanding of reliability- and maintenance engineering and broad knowledge of equipment dominant failures
  • Must be able to exercise good judgement to establish priorities;
  • Experience in Lean & Six Sigma is desirable; Green Belt skills
  • Requires excellent supervisory skills, including planning, organisation and work management;
  • Strong expertise in automation
  • Experience with SAP is an asset;
  • Languages: English and French required;
