To strengthen our Manufacturing Process Innovation team, based in Limelette, Belgium , we are looking for a talented individual to fill the position of Senior Process Engineer.

About the role

As a Senior Process Engineer , you willreport to our Director Process Improvement and Automation and be part of the Technical & Manufacturing department. You have strong analytical skills, strong computational skills, a strong innovation mindset and you are passionate about sustainable manufacturing process?

You will contribute to improving energy efficiency of the lime/dolime manufacturing process and reducing operations environmental impact and to support our efforts in reducing and capturing the CO2 generated by our manufacturing processes. You will support the operational sites in implementing process improvement plans and help drive the replacement of traditional fuels in order to help Lhoist achieve its 2030 sustainability objectives. Through plant process audits you will help our production sites to identify new opportunities for efficiency improvements and remove production bottlenecks.

You will be working in close collaboration with stakeholders from various functions (Technical, Operations, R&D, Engineering, Capex…) to deliver on these objectives.

Your role and responsibilities:  

  • Support MPI in providing technical support to Lhoist Operations across the globe
  • Support Production Operations in understanding process challenges and opportunities
  • Develop, maintain, and use advanced process computational tools to evaluate pyro-processing application innovations
  • Evaluate the impact of kiln innovations on product specifications, quality, flue gas emissions and production costs
  • Contribute to eco-innovation projects by designing new processes, re-designing and/or improving existing ones to reduce our carbon footprint or to increase CO2 concentration in the flue gases to support our carbon capture efforts.
  • Provide process engineering activities and deliverables related to Capex projects (from Design to Execution, e.g. Block Flow diagrams, Process Flow Diagrams, Heat & Mass balances, Process descriptions, P&ID, Utilities consumption, etc.) including the support of commissioning and startup/ramp up of new installations.
  • Support the preparation of large pyro-processing innovation development projects
  • Organize and follow validation trials either in-house or with project partners
  • Support in the Development of long-term roadmaps for the industrial deployment of the best kiln technologies
  • Keep up to date and maintain awareness of new lime process & applications developments
  • Play a key role in helping identify and share technical best practices across the group
  • About you:  

  • Degree in Process Engineering with strong focus on Energy & Environment
  • Phd is a plus
  • Min. 10-15 years working experience in energy intensive industry (e.g., cement, lime, chemical, steel), as employee or intern, preferably in multi-cultural environments)
  • Familiar with Chemical Reaction and Heat Transfer
  • Experienced in Process Auditing and measurement campaigns
  • Preferably, experienced in process engineering in large Capex project environments
  • Comfortable with field work in a plant environment
  • Strong Computational skills – ability to analyze and understand complex process and operational data
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Curious with creative/critical/logical thinking
  • Inclined to travel worldwide (up to 30%)
  • English proficient, French highly recommended, German is a plus
