
Senior Mechanical Engineer
Responsibilities
• Actively support, drive and implement a consistent approach regarding the replacement of critical mechanical static equipment (TOPS 2.08).
• Act as a project manager for static equipment replacement projects.
• Prepare technical / detailed specifications for critical static equipment, in line with Yara practices and legal requirements (e.g. PED). In close cooperation with Yara process/ material engineers for design optimization.
• Follow up (sub)contractors during engineering and fabrication phases in order to assure the quality (interpretation and full implementation of project technical requirements) and safety aspects of the works.
• Give input to cost estimates, (non)physical, and project control activities, especially during the feasibility and concept study phase of a project.
• Provide technical support to the production units upon request.
• Participate in troubleshooting, failure analysis, emergency repairs and remaining lifetime assessments, based upon request.
• Collaborate closely and effectively with other Yara departments and stakeholders (Yara Projects & Technology, R&TA, OpEx TPO’s, related to networking/ CoP’s, …).
Profile
• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering with minimum 10 years of experience in critical static equipment engineering and -fabrication follow up.
• Demonstrated ability to lead complex mechanical projects aspects in the fertilizer industry.
• Demonstrated successful experience in interacting with engineering contractors in different contractual models and related to multi-location execution.
• Capacity to handle complex problem solving, good analytical skills and ‘hands on’ attitude.
• Interpersonal skills/ proven record in coaching and developing multinational teams.
• Demonstrated accurate knowledge of the applicable Directive (eg. PED) and relevant code (ASME, EN, TEMA, API, etc.) and the applicability requirements in conjunction with other disciplines.
• Practical and theoretical background knowledge of software tools for mechanical static engineering (eg. PV Elite).
• Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis and CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) tools (eg. Ansys) is a plus.
• Practical skills in Welding, Non-Destructive Testing (Dye Penetrant, X-Ray, UT, etc.) and in Quality Assurance/ Control is a plus.
• Excellent stakeholder management.
• Fluent in English, additional languages are an asset.
• Willingness to work and travel in an international environment.
Additional Information
The position will be based in Yara’s Brussels Office.
Note that the role will require travelling to Yara sites and supplier locations.
