Process & Project Engineer

This is the role

The Process & Project Engineer plays a vital role in driving efficiency, safety, and productivity in chemical manufacturing processes. They combine technical expertise with problem-solving skills to optimize processes and lead projects to implement new technologies and equipment.

The role is based in the manufacturing site for Methylamines in Ghent (Belgium) and requires on-site presence. Candidates should either live in the area or be willing to relocate.

The working language is Dutch, so it is required to speak Dutch or be willing to learn it.

Typical duties and responsibilities are

  • After a thorough training period during which you become familiar with our processes, installations, and technology, you will be responsible for monitoring, optimizing, and implementing chemical production processes, as well as developing new technologies.
  • You bring ideas for improving production processes by analyzing production data, creating mass and heat balances of the process, modeling and simulating the process, conducting pinch analysis, and more.
  • You evaluate the possibilities to comply with new regulations or improve our performance in terms of safety, environment, quality, or sustainability.
  • You develop the "basic engineering" deliverables: P & IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams), pipe specifications, equipment specifications, control philosophy, IO (Input/Output) count, power check, HAZOP (Hazard and Operability) study, LOPA (Layer of Protection Analysis) investigation, permit applications, and more.
  • You lead projects from A to Z: you define the problem, find the right solution, perform detailed engineering, and oversee construction activities and commissioning, together with a team of internal and external experts.
  • As a contact engineer, you assist Operations in solving issues related to safety, quality, environment, productivity, yield, and more.
  • You support Operations in continuous process improvement: you evaluate current process performance, introduce production tests to enhance process performance.
  • You stay updated on new technological developments and conduct feasibility studies for their implementation in existing installations.
  • This is what you bring

    • You have obtained a Master's degree in chemical engineering or equivalent.
    • Prior work experience in the (chemical) process industry is definitely a plus.
    • You are able to execute projects in a thorough and results-oriented manner.
    • You possess excellent communication skills with a professional command of Dutch and English.
    • You are a team player who can collaborate in a results-oriented and respectful manner with stakeholders at various levels.
