A.M.L. is looking for an enthusiastic Head Laboratory Technician (MLT) to join the Microbiology team.

Job description
AML has several departments, each with its specific research & techniques. The head laboratory technician will supervise the laboratory technicians of the Microbiology department: examining various materials of human and animal origin (urine, faeces, sputum, genital and pus samples,...) for the presence of pathogenic micro-organisms (bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasites,...).
You draw up the planning for the lab
You manage the lab technicians within the department. You are the link between the staff, the clinical biologists and the HR department.You evaluate and coach the staff in consultation with the department head.You draw up a training plan and bring the employees' authorisation declarations in order.You are responsible for supervising and training trainees.You are involved in the selection of new MLTs.You collaborate in the lab when needed.
You are responsible for the maintenance and continuous improvement of a quality system. You are involved in implementation validation of new projects, analyzers and test methods.You closely follow up internal QC and EQC reports.You have the equipment manager or MLT adjust, check and improve the department's draft SOPs.You ensure the availability, proper operation and maintenance of equipment.You solve routine problems and creatively seek solutions, alternative ways of working, etc.You perform internal audits upon request.
You report to the Clinical Biologist of the department & together with the Clinical Biologist are responsible for the smooth running of the department.
Profile
You have a professional bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Technologist (visa and accreditation) and have worked for a minimum of 3 years as an MLT in a Microbiology department
You possess good leadership skills.
You are a team player and motivator. You dare to take decisions.
You communicate fluently with your colleagues and department heads.
Knowledge of chemical, haematological, immunological and microbiological analysis techniques and their background is an asset.
You are familiar and experienced with existing quality systems and standards in a laboratory environment.
You handle data confidentially.
You have a high sense of responsibility and work autonomously and punctually.
You are familiar with MS Office packages (Word and Excel).
You speak good Dutch, knowledge of French is a plus.
You want to work alternating day and late shifts, as well as weekend work.
