  • About the role

    This position will provide R&D focussed technical lab and/or engineering support to research scientists and project managers in the field of water electrolysis. As a R&D Technician, you will perform a variety of hands-on electrochemical laboratory tasks aimed at the development of next-generation components and continuous improvement of the performance of our existing water electrolysis products. This position will be placed within a larger group focussing on next generation products (MEA) and will report to the Lead of MEA within the Hydrogen R&D Group.

    Your Impact as R&D Technician – Hydrogen:

  • Fabrication of samples including cell construction, electrode coating from research materials, and electrochemical testing.
  • Execute pre and post-test characterization of materials and perform investigative tear-down of electrochemical cells.
  • Record results, organize data, perform basic computations in R&D test database and provide feedback.
  • Work closely with other members of our product development and product engineering teams to support our product development program.
  • Ordering of miscellaneous materials, parts and consumables and maintenance of laboratory supplies.
  • To ensure that a safe working environment is maintained at all times through compliance with Health and Safety at Work legislation and Bekaert's.
  • Operational Procedures. This includes conducting COSHH and Risk Assessments and the maintenance of records of hazardous substances used within the labs.
  • About You

    Essential skills & competencies

  • Knowledge of proton exchange membrane (PEM) and Anion Exchange Membrane (AEM) electrolyser 
  • Clear understanding of electrocatalysis, fuel cell/electrolyser components, catalyst coating techniques, electrochemical testing, etc
  • Experience with solution-based coating and cell assembly techniques and equipment
  • Able to work independently with precision and safety and to meet deadlines.
  • To be able to prioritize workload and work under own initiative.
  • The ability to work as a team member and possess good interpersonal, communication and literacy skills.
  • Bachelor's or Mater's in science or engineering, ie chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or other related fields 
  • 2 – 3 years' experience working in an electrochemistry lab or electrochemical device characterization, such as batteries, fuel cells and/or electrolysis.
