Executive Director, Non-Interventional Study Planning & Delivery

Executive Director, Non-Interventional Study Planning & Delivery is responsible to lead a team of Study Delivery Leads and Project Managers to plan, develop and deliver multiple work packages within our integrated evidence plans across the R&D and marketed product portfolios including managing various elements of business operations at a project and study level. This position will also partner with multiple stakeholders within R&D and the Chief Patient Officer (CPO) organisations to ensure high quality, on time and on budget delivery of this book of work. This position will sit on the Global Clinical Operations (GCO) Leadership Team.
Key Responsibilities:
The responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Lead with purpose and passion, develop key capabilities across multiple roles, set the vision for the team and define the roadmap to get there; provide coaching and training aligned to talent management and the team’s development plans; responsible for hiring and performance management.
Ensure sound project and risk management principles are upheld and that accurate, integrated schedules are in place for each project plan.
Drive competitive and continuously improving operational strategies for the delivery of non-interventional studies and other activities supporting the integrated evidence plan.
Communicate effectively upwards and across functional lines to ensure the right leaders are informed of portfolio progress, risks, resourcing, financial performance, acceleration opportunities, key achievements and timely decision points.
Liaise with finance partners and ensure the right connectivity to PMs and SDLs so that financial progress, risk and opportunity is well understood and managed; lead the input into periodic financial forecasting and budgeting processes in R&D and the CPO organisation.
Plan, staff, review and organise resources and task assignments; evolve outsourcing plans to reflect resource constraints and sustain the internal workforce.
In partnership with GCD, other project management lines and R&D Tech, research and recommend best practices and tools to facilitate competitive project management and study delivery practices.
Ensure portfolio priorities are well-understood by the team and ensure resources are deployed accordingly.
Ensure study protocols and other documentation are of high quality and designs and plans are feasible; create a culture where challenge to scientific leads is the norm and ambition for patients.
Lead high complexity studies or repoint problematic project plans where there is critical risk to the business; identify process inefficiencies and lead solutions development and implementations.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Lifesciences/ Business or a related field with applicable experience.
Experience leading a large team; leading leaders.
Industry R&D operational leadership across diverse disciplines.
Experience as a Project Manager (PMP certification is encouraged), strong knowledge of leading project management methodologies and tools.
Effective oral and written communication skills toward audiences from entry-level to SVPs
Experience with study management in clinical and non-clinical settings; ability to differentiate operational strategies across multiple types of studies.
Demonstrated ability to understand and influence study design.
Demonstrated ability to understand and appreciate the value of diverse perspectives and drive innovative solutions to complex problems.
Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with peers, cross-functional colleagues and senior management.
Self-motivation, with experience of working independently to establish new initiatives and encouraging high performing multi-stakeholder teams to embrace innovative approaches and new ways of working.
Excellent organizational and time planning skills.
Experience of vendor oversight and relationship management.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced Degree in Lifesciences/ Business or a related field with applicable experience
Detailed knowledge and understanding of Pharma R&D, people, structure, decision-making processes, business objectives and strategy.
Experience of working in challenging business environments with senior managers and line leadership/executive teams.
Integrity in business and personnel confidentiality.
A strong sense of initiative, urgency, pragmatism, judgment – an ability to make things happen.
Consistent attention to detail, ability to deliver to demanding deadlines whilst maintaining the highest quality.
