Development Engineer for BEOL/FEOL Reliability Testing

What you will do

Reliability testing is a fundamental aspect in the evolution of semiconductor fabrication processes. At imec, we develop state of the art devices and interconnections that require careful reliability assessment. To support these activities, we are looking for a development engineer for Back-end-of-line (BEOL) and/or Front-end-of-line (FEOL) reliability testing.

You work in a small team that shares and provide expertise to various programs at imec and the entire Advanced Reliability Robustness & Testing (AR²T) department, working not only with researchers and scientists, but also device and process experts and hardware and software engineers.

As a specialist you will be performing a variety of reliability tests both at wafer and package level. Your primary responsibilities will be to execute tests for different projects and report the results in relevant meetings. Moreover, to ensure optimal throughput of results, you will be required to program the tools and generate scripts for fast data analysis (working in close collaboration with our software team). In addition to your previous role, you will be the head of the electromigration lab where you will direct the users towards safe practices in the lab as well as be responsible for the maintenance of the electromigration tools.

The primary responsibilities of this position include but not limited to :

  • Perform and develop accelerated testing for reliability characterization and qualification.
  • Develop automation testing routines for wafer level reliability characterization.
  • Conduct data analysis based on the test results.
  • Interface with Researchers and Programs on reliability measurements.
  • Provide fast and effective feedback to integration teams.
  • Onsite presence of 4 days per week is required.
  • This position will require around 80% lab work.
  • What we do for you

We offer you the opportunity to join one of the world’s premier research centers in nanotechnology at its headquarters in Belgium. With your talent, passion and expertise, you’ll become part of a team that makes the impossible possible. Together, we shape the technology that will determine the society of tomorrow.

We are proud of our open, multicultural, and informal working environment with ample possibilities to take initiative and show responsibility. We commit to supporting and guiding you in this process; not only with words but also with tangible actions. Through y, 'our corporate university', we actively invest in your development to further manage your technical and personal growth.

We are aware that your valuable contribution makes imec a top player in its field. Your energy and commitment are therefore appreciated by means of an attractive and competitive salary with many fringe benefits.

    Who you are

  • You have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical/electronical or other fields of engineering and science.
  • No experience with reliability testing and/or lab equipment is required! You will receive extensive on-the-job training.
  • Knowledge of Python is required. You are open to learning Labview and other programming tools (on the job).
  • You are eager to do onsite hands-on work in the measurement labs in support of various research programs which you will report to.
  • After a thorough training period, you would eventually be able to work independently and translate requests from the research programs into practical applications.
  • You have notions of typical semiconductor fabrication processes. Knowledge and/or experience with reliability failure mechanisms such as electromigration (EM), stress induced voiding (SIV), time dependent dielectric breakdown (TDDB), Bias temperature instability (BTI), Hot carrier injection (HCI) is a plus.
  • You are a team player with good networking and communication skills to work in a multidisciplinary and multicultural team.
  • Given the international character of imec, we see your profound knowledge of English as a must.
