  • About the role

    To strengthen the technology team of the Rubber Reinforcement business unit of Bekaert, we are looking for a Smart Technologies Engineer. This role will focus on managing projects related to process development and improvement, with a particular emphasis on leveraging advanced data analytics to accelerate our ongoing digital transformation and integration of advanced technologies into the manufacturing processes.

    Your Impact as ‘Smart Technologies Engineer’:

    As a Smart Technologies Engineer you will lead projects to develop innovative processes for production of steel cords for reinforcement of tires. Utilizing Bekaert's project management methodology and supported by technical process and equipment experts, you will drive enhancements in cost-effectiveness, quality, and sustainability. This will involve embracing cutting-edge industry concepts like Industry 4.0. Additionally, you will provide technical support to our plants across the globe. 

  • You will be part of the global technology team focused on the process of manufacturing steel cords (the so-called C&B process) and work on specific projects to develop innovative processes to improve cost-effectiveness, quality and energy consumption.
  • You will actively participate in multidisciplinary and international teams, driving results in strategic projects while adhering to the Bekaert project management methodology.
  • You will build up knowledge about the production process in a rubber reinforcement plant.
  • You will learn and apply Industry 4.0 methods.
  • You will identify and assess new improvement opportunities and formulate new project proposals.
  • You will closely monitor new developments in the external world, utilizing methods such as patent research and by attending exhibitions, to identify potential advancements relevant to your expertise.
  • You will develop and implement process-specific standards across the organization, ensuring their effective implementation through diligent follow-up.
  • About You

    Essential skills & competencies

  • You hold a master’s degree or PhD in engineering, preferably in mechanical or electronics engineering, with a keen interest in data analytics, robotics, and machine intelligence. Prior experience in process engineering is advantageous, but not required.
  • You have an interest in emerging industry concepts such as Industry 4.0 and the SMART factory
  • You are a quick learner, you are hands-on and solution-oriented.
  • You are eager to build up expertise in new domains and you are an innovative thinker.
  • You excel in process and machine development as well as data analysis
  • You can effectively communicate your work to diverse audiences in a clear and comprehensive manner.
  • You enjoy collaborating with others, drawing energy from collective achievements, and possess strong interpersonal skills.
  • If you possess experience in project management and/or familiarity with IATF requirements, it would be advantageous.
  • You are open to travel (≤ 20% of your time) to the Rubber Reinforcement plants worldwide and you get inspired by working in a multicultural context. 
  • You speak English fluently.
