Risk Engineer

Risk Consulting is essential to supporting the success of our client, which provides insurance and risk management solutions to major corporate clients in Belgium and around the world.
At this employer is a team of Risk Engineering Consultants who work with clients and the Underwriting and Claims teams, across a wide range of commercial and industrial facilities, to identify risks and propose practical risk management solutions.
In line with the ambition to continuously improve risk management solutions and become 'Best in Class', they are looking to strengthen the Belgian team with the appointment of a Risk Engineering Consultant. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual looking to develop her/his existing loss prevention skills and experience. To support retention and new business wins, this role involves managing and delivering efficient and effective risk management and loss prevention services across all sectors.
As a member of the internal team, the successful candidate will work closely with risk management partners, Underwriting and Claims teams and Risk Consulting colleagues to shape and deliver the Risk Consulting proposition.
The role typically involves conducting risk investigations at client sites, including preparing reports, managing larger clients and providing other risk management support to underwriters and clients.
This role will suit an individual with good analytical, relationship management and communication skills, as well as strong skills in one or more of the core technical disciplines of property loss prevention.
This is a mix of office and home-based work. Regular attendance is required at the Antwerp office, with regular travel throughout Belgium and occasional international travel.

Description

  • Conduct detailed risk assessments at client locations and account/prospect reviews to secure profitable business within agreed risk appetite and minimize future claims.
  • Provide close technical risk management support to underwriters in risk selection and maintenance of technical underwriting practices.
  • Shape the future, win as a team and grow with your employer.
  • Provide support to underwriters and other internal stakeholders in promoting the Risk Management proposition to clients and brokers. This includes being able to articulate at a senior level, in areas of the proposition beyond the consultant's own expertise.
  • Contribute to the development of Risk Management propositions by bringing knowledge and understanding of clients and risks and applying this within business objectives.
  • Manage customer interactions efficiently, courteously and in a timely manner to deliver high standards of customer satisfaction.
  • Provide technical advice, guidance and coaching to colleagues to develop knowledge and understanding of customers and their businesses, as well as associated commercial drivers and risks.

Profile

  • Graduate degree in engineering or risk management and/or relevant technical qualifications or experience.
  • Strong background in fire protection and property risk management.
  • Previous experience in a risk management field, either in industry or financial services, with evidence of specific technical training or qualifications and knowledge of risk management, including fire protection and suppression systems and relevant standards.
  • Demonstrates energy and enthusiasm, both for self and others, to raise the bar.
  • Excellent communicator, with the ability to manage relationships with key stakeholders and explain relevant information clearly and concisely to affect positive change.
  • Pragmatic, solution-oriented individual who confidently makes decisions where there may not be a clear answer.
  • Is highly self-motivated, disciplined and well organized, able to stay focused on priorities when dealing with conflicting demands.
  • Experience working in a customer-facing environment.
  • Open-minded team player.
  • IT skills, including Microsoft Office and risk management database reporting systems.
  • Full driving license is a requirement for the position.
  • Language: Dutch and English at a fluent level. Good understanding of French.
