Senior AWS Cloud Infrastructure Developer

Job Summary:

We are looking for an experienced Sr. Cloud Infrastructure Developer to join our Architecture and System team and work with our existing teams to accelerate our new cloud services developments and utilize AWS services to re-platform our current airline solutions to take advantage of the cloud. 

As part of our team, you will be creating and supporting common AWS infrastructure modules and services, creating guard rails and automatic compliance checks, and improving our CI/CD pipeline. 

As a Sr. Developer we are looking for guidance around best practices, identification of issues with our DevOps processes and tools, and to help direct us towards best practices. With a full suite of Flight Operations solutions, we value standardization and repeatability, and you will play a role in defining those standards.  

At NAVBLUE we formed our software development teams around a matrixed organization where team members belong to a chapter, in which their skills, competencies and standards are solidified and grown.  They are also members of a Squad where they utilize those skills and competencies to support the squad to be a self-sustaining team able to build and release quality software.  Squads belong to a Tribe, which coordinates and ensures the squad’s focus and output are aligned to support services and solutions for a product or vertical.  As a member of the Architecture and System team, you will at times work with/within these squads to mentor and assist them with their AWS infrastructure and pipeline.


 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical direction for AWS infrastructure and services.

  • Defining and creating guard rails, and automatic compliance checks.

  • Supporting our DevOps pipeline

  • Researching, evaluating, and selecting tools to support our pipeline, infrastructure as code, guard rails, and compliance checks.

  • Evangelizing and advocating for standard processes and infrastructure as code modules across teams.

  • Supporting and mentoring teams with the use of infrastructure as code and our common modules.

  • Communicate project/work status orally, written, or other as required.

  • Connecting with Product Owners, Chapter Leaders, Tribe Leaders, and Architects to understand and incorporate our infrastructure needs into roadmap items.

  • Bring cloud first solutioning to designs and decisions.

  • Maintain/Create documentation for applications, tools, or systems as required.

  • Ownership and support for designated services and components.

    • Participates and leads design meetings.

    • Provides analysis and estimates for work required within the area of responsibility.

    • Reviews all code committed by others into the assigned area of ownership.

    • Is the primary person responsible for defect fixing and new development within the assigned code area.



 

Qualified Experience/Skills/Training: 

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, or equivalent

Experience: 

  • A proven track record in software development, build process, and scripting.

  • Hands-on experience with a variety of software development platforms would be helpful.

  • Extensive experience developing build pipelines, including supporting and standardizing multiple active build chains.

  • Experience with developing infrastructure as code.

Licensure/Certifications:

  • AWS Certificates Preferred

Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities & Competencies:

  • Must work effectively with others in a team environment

  • Strong working knowledge of AWS Cloud Development (experience with ECS, RDS, Lambda, SQS, and SNS is a plus)

  • Strong communication skills

  • Strong networking experience

  • Experience with containerization (Docker is a plus)

  • Strong working knowledge of IaC deployment and tooling (CloudFormation and Terraform are a plus)

  • Experience with using and configuring GitLab and CloudBees CI/CD pipelines

  • Interacting with Git repositories

  • Excellent scripting skills (Python is a plus)
