Indirect Tax Technology Analyst III

JOB SUMMARY:

Vertex is looking for an Indirect Tax Technology Analyst (LATAM or APAC expertise is required but candidate location is not limited to these regions) who will analyze VAT and technical requirements and implement those during monthly updates in the Vertex® VAT Compliance product (‘VVC’). This role will appeal to a detail oriented, creative thinker that enjoys problem solving and is interested in VAT, and in tax software/technology. The Tax Technology Specialist will work closely together with the Tax Research Solutions and Development Teams.

VVC processes data imported by our customers to provide signature ready VAT Returns, Filing Reports, and Intrastat returns (incl. related e-files). You will be part of the team that makes sure every transaction makes its way to the right place on the right return, is monitoring announced compliance changes for all countries VVC supports and is analyzing and implementing these changes to the VAT forms and reporting’s, as well as, adding new countries to the coverage (e-)reports.

While supporting and implementing the content, this team aligns with internal stakeholders to offer the best value to our customers. This means our team members need to understand not only the VAT but also the technology aspects of VVC.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Keep track of sources where VAT compliance changes are announced and maintain links to the right tax office websites. Monitor these VAT changes in the respective VAT legislations on a continuous basis, as well as obtain information from the respective Tax Authorities
  • Identify, understand, document, and communicate relevant changes in the VAT law or regulations that could have an impact on VVC, to the team, on a continuous basis
  • Perform maintenance of VVC by translating the VAT compliance changes – including, but not limited to updates of VAT rates, rules, forms, e-file schema - to technical input for VVC, and document the changes made
  • Research on new returns / countries to implement
  • Content design and implementation of new returns / countries
  • Populate databases to support various types of testing’s
  • Perform quality assurance tasks following documented processes
  • Support customer service by answering questions / solving issues pertaining to VAT rates, rules, returns, enhancements, or bugs, via a ticketing system
  • Support our dynamic environment, using agile methodologies, collaborating with other departments, contributing time, effort, and ideas
  • Enhance job knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks, participating in professional societies, developing and/or maintaining proficiency in the latest personal productivity tools is a plus (ex. Alteryx, Power BI, etc.)

  • Ability to interact effectively with internal stakeholders
  • Expertise and knowledge in Latin America or Asia Pacific region’s Indirect Taxes and Reporting is a must
  • Expertise and knowledge in EMEA region’s Indirect Taxes and Reporting is an asset

  • EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Taxation, Finance, Data Science, or similar degree is required
  • Obtained or actively pursuing one or more of the following: Juris Doctorate (J.D.), Master in Taxation, MBA, CMI or CPA certification (active or inactive) is preferred.
  • Six (6) plus years in a multi-jurisdictional environment with emphasis on Indirect Tax
  • Industry or consulting (LATAM or APAC regions) experience is a plus
  • Experience with Vertex or other tax engines is a plus
  • Or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
