The Light Vehicle Advanced Engineering team at Dana Bruges develops electrified powertrains of the next generation. Inventing new technologies, designing and testing of prototype units and translating advanced technologies to future products.
Job Purpose
As an EDU Systems Engineer, you will be working on the mechanical concept design of electric automotive drivetrains, thermal & hydraulic simulations and the validation of E-axle prototypes on our test benches. Together with a thermal and electromagnetic motor expert you will support the virtual validation of new Electric Drive Units developed by our applications engineering team.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Conceptual Design of Electric Drive Units (EDU)
Calculations & Simulations of transmission systems
Lead CFD and FEA activities with engineering centers
Component Selection
Integration of drivetrain components
Design reviews & DFMEA’s
Definition and follow up of testing activities
Leading CAD-design engineers
Thermal analysis of EDU’s and optimization of cooling concepts
Supervising and supporting technicians on EDU builds
Maintaining a good knowledge of the internal and external state of the art in automotive Electric Drive Unit technology
Leading or participating in the various stages of an Advanced Engineering project including identification of objectives and risks, planning of activities, documentation and reporting
Collaborating within a multidisciplinary team (Electromagnetics, Thermal, Controls, Mechanical and testing experts) towards achieving objectives and solving problems
Collaborating with partners internal and external to Dana, including specialized companies, national labs or Universities, locally and internationally
Desired skills and competencies
Master of science in (electro-) mechanical engineering
Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering, preferably with electric motors
Excellent English language skills; Dutch is an asset
Excellent CAD Design skills
Good understanding of CFD, FEA
Good understanding of Thermal Simulations
Good understanding of manufacturing of transmissions and/or electric motors
Good understanding of Matlab
Knowledge of gear design
Knowledge of Matlab
Asset: experience with thermal modelling of electric motors
Asset: experience with mechanical design of electric motors
Asset: experience with Project Management
