Director of EMEA Government Relations

Summary:

The position of Director of EMEA Government Relations is an advocacy position responsible for working public policy and advocacy on agriculture, biomaterials, climate/sustainability and trade at the EU level and select EMEA markets. The position will: 

  • Coordinate ADM public policy advocacy on agriculture, biomaterials, climate/sustainability, and trade, with input from and in collaboration with ADM business segments and functional groups (e.g., Communications, Regulatory & Scientific Affairs and Sustainability among others).
  • Plan, develop, draft, and implement advocacy strategies and stakeholder engagement plans to influence on these public policy issues, including through direct engagement with policy stakeholders and through trade associations.
  • Educate policy stakeholders about ADM and the company’s agriculture and climate/sustainability goals (e.g., Regenerative Agriculture), helping build a network for stakeholder relationships at the EU level and select EMEA markets.
  • To achieve this, the successful candidate must have experience in agriculture, biomaterials, climate/sustainability and / or trade issues as well as be interested in ADM’s business and what drives our long-term corporate goals and near-term profitability.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate advocacy and serve as a point of contact for internal stakeholders on public policy related to agriculture, biomaterials, climate/sustainability, and trade issues. 
  • Work with ADM business segments, internal experts, and functional groups to (e.g., Regulatory & Scientific Affairs, Sustainability) identify public policy issues, frame business impacts (opportunities /risks), provide strategic analysis, develop positions, develop and execute advocacy plans, and provide proactive updates that translate key developments into actionable business intelligence.
  • Develop and draft stakeholder engagement plans on these issues, coordinating and supporting meetings between ADM business management and policy stakeholders on these issues.
  • Draft briefing memos and provide staffing to executives and/or key business leaders on these issues. 
  • Engage and serve as ADM lead in trade associations related to these issues.
  • Translate policy developments into meaningful data and actionable intelligence for business leaders.
  • Track issue management through existing processes and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Requirements:

  • Established network of stakeholders in Brussels, including in government, public policy groups/think tanks, and associations related to agriculture, biomaterials, climate/sustainability, and / or trade issues. 
  • Experience in agriculture, biomaterials, climate/sustainability and / or trade issues at the EU level.
  • Experience in problem-solving when public policy issues arise, including proactive identification, framing and strategy development to address the risk or opportunity.
  • Ability to credibly explain complex public policy issues to business stakeholders and ADM business to government officials and work to understand implications to the business.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, with additional proficiency in other EMEA languages (French, Arabic).
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with a collaborative approach to working with colleagues across cultures and functional disciplines in a shared-success model.
  • Proven ability to manage complex portfolio, deadlines and executive visits.
  • High ethical standards and personal integrity.
  • Strong initiative, entrepreneurism, and strategic thinking
  • Minimum education required: undergraduate degree or advanced degrees. Minimum 7-10 years of relevant work experience, with private sector experience preferred.
