The ICOS Vision Systems division focuses on the backend of the line semiconductor industry providing fully automated tools to inspect and sort, finished integrated circuit packages. For more than 15 years, ICOS has been a market leader with tray-to-tray and tray-to-tape inspection and sorting tools found in the production facilities of all major chipmakers in the world. Our market-leading technology and superior customer service requires strong talent in optics, machine control, algorithms and applications within our engineering teams. The ICOS division headquarters are in Leuven, Belgium with additional engineering and manufacturing operations in Hong Kong and Shenzhen, China.

Primary Purpose of Role and key Responsibilities

This represents an excellent opportunity for a Senior/Principal Process/Field/Integration engineer wishing to develop their career in a field-based role specialising on key 300mm semiconductor Advanced Packaging applications and 200mm BioMEMS / GaN on Si applications. You will be on a steep learning curve, performing challenging process development activities whilst understanding and communicating integration related teams in imec, SPTS and KLA. You will also gain experience working on next generation process flows for 3D Advanced Packaging, and Power applications, and discuss requirements with imec partners and KLA customers. You will be working with friendly, inclusive, and dynamic teams both at imec, SPTS and KLA. 

Your main responsibility will be to provide onsite process development support on SPTS Etch, CVD and PVD modules, based at IMEC’s state-of-the art facility as part of several joint development programmes. You will work closely with the Senior Applications Engineer based at imec, and supported by the JDP Applications Manager based off-site, along with Engineering/Product Marketing teams based in the UK/US. Additional responsibilities will include advising imec end users on system performance, preparing reports and technical notes, presenting data at imec technical review seminars, and building successful customer relationships. Good inter-personal skills should complement the ability to work with a high degree of autonomy. There will be a strong focus on learning and dissemination.

Day to day responsibilities include:

  • Effective customer facing project management
  • Present to SPTS/KLA colleagues located globally - knowledge transfer of learning during joint development activity
  • Representing SPTS/KLA at joint development project meetings and conferences
  • Summarising results/new technologies in a written report or presentation
  • Providing the Product Marketing departments with regular updates on the progress of multiple projects over wide range of process technologies
  • Demonstrating plasma etch/deposition processes within specifications
  • Assessing results using analytical equipment and appropriate software packages
  • Undertaking problem solving and troubleshooting involving hands-on equipment investigations
  • This position will involve frequent travel to UK to participate in technical review meetings at SPTS.

    Qualifications & Experience

    Candidates must be educated to at least degree level, and ideally to Masters/PhD level in either a chemistry, physics or semiconductor technology discipline. Alternatively, applicants will have relevant experience of working with plasma etch or deposition equipment. Previous experience of direct interaction with customers would also be advantageous.
